Levi Tomitšik: Contributing to Thrombosis Research as a Volunteer Donor
Levi Tomitšik, Laboratory Technician at University of Helsinki, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“They took my blood!
Because I volunteered to donate it for research.
Usually, I am the one working with samples, however, yesterday I switched roles and donated approximately 80ml of my blood to ongoing research projects!
One of the study is on how platelets interact with collagen and how that interaction could be inhibited locally to prevent thrombosis without causing systemic bleeding problems.
The project is led by Prof. Riitta Lassila and Postdoctoral researcher Axelle Kern, and is conducted in the Research Program in Systems Oncology at the University of Helsinki in collaboration with the Coagulation Disorders Unit at HUS.
I am grateful for this opportunity to contribute to science from both sides of the pipette!”
