Liselotte Hyveled: Exploring Opportunities to Improve Hemophilia and Sickle Cell Care in Ghana

Liselotte Hyveled, Vice President, scientific partnerships and integration, Board member at Novo Nordisk, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Reflecting on an impactful week in Ghana

I am incredibly grateful to be on the ground with the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia and heamoglobinophahies Foundation (NNHF) and our partners, visiting local hospitals and patient organizations to deeply understand the care landscape for haemophilia and sickle cell disease in Ghana.

Our mission? To listen, learn, and identify the critical gaps and life-changing opportunities in treating these complex blood disorders.

Key Insights and Observations

  • Resilient Patient Communities: Meeting with local patient organizations highlighted the immense strength of advocates who work tirelessly to raise awareness and support families despite limited resources.
  • The Treatment Gap: While healthcare professionals in Ghana are deeply dedicated, systemic challenges—such as inconsistent access to life changing medications, affordable and consitent diagnostics, I can see are significant hurdles.

I hope we woth this trip identify the right places were we as a foundation can plug in and find the right opportunities for impact via meeting stakeholders here who can show us the best way for long term partnership and sustainable solutions.

No single organization can bridge these gaps alone.

It requires sustained, cross-sector collaboration between global foundations, local healthcare providers, ministries, and patient advocates to build a resilient healthcare ecosystem.

Thank you to all the medical professionals and patient leaders who opened their doors and shared their journeys with us.

Together, we can turn these identified opportunities into sustainable, life-saving realities.

This is just the beginning of a journey – Later this week we have a workshop with everyone and I so much look forward to more insight and discussions.

Thank you Mette Finderup Grove for your support.”
