“The social media experts remind us: ‘Don’t forget to capture your talk!’
Photos and Instagram: well you might say I blew it ..because I got so caught up with the bravery of the women who attended !
Thank you Kim Phelan for inviting me to Florida to speak at a the annual women’s retreat for hemophilia! I left with a heart full of women I won’t forget.
From the moment I arrived, the warmth, energy, and welcome were beautiful. There was hair tinsel, belly dancing, yoga, sound bowl relaxation, bracelet making , dancing 80,s style ,informative conversations and presentations with room to laugh, learn, exhale, and simply enjoy.
Somewhere in all of that, I gave an interactive presentation, filled with action , love and new perspectives.
The conversations. The participation. The laughter. Those moments when someone recognizes herself in what you’re saying, engaging and sharing , thats when the photo opportunities were missed but what stayed with me was far more meaningful.
These courageous women shared what it means to live with hemophilia or care for a child who has it. The exhaustion. The uncertainty. The planning and worry that others may never see.
There is so much more to their stories than ‘a cut that won’t stop bleeding.’
Conversations about heavy menstrual bleeding, internal bleeding, children playing sports, and the everyday decisions families face reminded me how much the general public may not understand.
These women are warriors. And even warriors deserve time to put down what they carry.
To see them let loose, try something new, laugh together, and have a little respite to recharge that was the gift of this retreat.
I was grateful to offer encouragement, connection, and a few unapologetic laughs. They gave me a deeper understanding of courage and the strength it takes to keep showing up.
Sometimes you miss the photo because you’re fully present for the moment. This was one of those times and my heart captured plenty.
