Mamta Soni: The Role of Anti-Xa Monitoring in Anticoagulation Management
Mamta Soni, Chief of Laboratory Services at Apollo Health and Lifestyle Limited, shared onĀ LinkedIn:
“Happy to have shared my experience at the well-organized CME program, ‘Anti-Xa Monitoring in Anticoagulation: Bridging Laboratory Insights and Clinical Practice,’ held in Chennai.
The Anti-Xa assay is a functional test that measures the anticoagulant activity of heparin. It is a valuable tool for monitoring heparin therapy, providing a direct and more accurate assessment of its anticoagulant effect, thereby enabling safer and more effective anticoagulation management.
Some key takeaways from my presentation:
- In special clinical settings such as pregnancy, obesity, and renal impairment, Anti-Xa monitoring helps avoid under- or over-anticoagulation, thereby reducing the risk of both bleeding and thrombotic complications .
- It is important to recognize the potential challenges related to assay accuracy, appropriate timing of sample collection, and the influence of individual patient characteristics on test interpretation.
The CME was a scientific treat, bringing together clinical haematologists, paediatricians, and laboratory professionals for insightful discussions and knowledge sharing.
My sincere thanks to Werfen for the opportunity to share my insights and engage with fellow healthcare professionals.”
