Mapillar Dahn: Advancing Stem Cell-Derived Red Blood Cells
Mapillar Dahn, Founder and Executive Director of MTS Sickle Cell Foundation INC, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A step forward in the future of blood transfusions.
Safi Biotherapeutics Inc has announced a 4.7 dollars million funding extension to advance its manufactured, stem-cell-derived human red blood cells toward a first clinical trial planned for 2027.
For our sickle cell community, research like this is worth watching. We know how much families depend on access to blood, and why progress in transfusion medicine matters.
The initial clinical focus is acute blood loss, rather than sickle cell disease. These cells remain investigational, with clinical studies still needed to evaluate their safety and effectiveness.
We’re encouraged by this investment and look forward to following the science. In the meantime, blood donors remain essential. ”
