Maria Elisa Mancuso: EHC 2026 Highlights the Unmet Needs of Women with Bleeding Disorders
Maria Elisa Mancuso, Professor of Medicine at Frankfurt University Hospital, Medical Specialist at Humanitas Research Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Day 2 at EHC 2026 in Istanbul – Women and Girls with Bleeding Disorders.
A very engaging session today dedicated to Women and Girls with Bleeding Disorders (WGBD), addressing some of the key challenges that women face throughout their lives — from genetic counselling and prenatal diagnosis to heavy menstrual bleeding, diagnosis and access to appropriate care.
Many thanks to Rezan Abdul Kadir, Anna Tollwé and Michelle Lavin for their excellent contributions and for a stimulating discussion.
One message came through particularly strongly: women and girls with bleeding disorders need to be recognised, listened to and appropriately investigated.
Heavy menstrual bleeding should not simply be accepted as ‘normal’ when it may be the first sign of an underlying bleeding disorder.
Sessions like this remind us how important it is to combine clinical expertise, patient perspectives and multidisciplinary care to close the remaining gaps in diagnosis and treatment.
Thanks to the EHC – European Haemophilia Consortium for continuing to give WGBD the visibility they deserve.”
