“Behind every machine, there is a human story.
Today, I cared for a patient undergoing a lymphocyte collection as part of the preparation for CAR-T cell therapy, an innovative treatment for a specific large B-cell lymphoma.
At first, he was understandably intimidated by the machine.
Watching your blood circulate through an extracorporeal circuit can be unsettling.
We took the time to talk about all sorts of things, while I explained how the procedure and the technology worked.
As the conversation went on, something struck me: the way he spoke, his expressions, even his appearance… he reminded me so much of my grandfather, who passed away years ago.
People often say that our job is about operating machines, medical devices, and advanced technologies.
And that’s true.
But behind every procedure is, above all, a person with fears, a story, and hope.
Connecting a patient to a machine is never just a technical act.
Technical expertise is essential, but so are empathy, trust, and human connection.”
