Nina Lansbury: Supporting a Period Friendly World With Menstrual Health Research and Education

Nina Lansbury, Associate Professor at The University of Queensland, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today is International Menstrual Hygiene Day, established globally a decade ago with the mission of ‘Together for a Period Friendly World’. The date is pertinent: May 28th (28/05) represents the average menstrual cycle of 28 days, with five days of bleeding.

Here at the School of Public Health at The University of Queensland, we brought together our diversity of researchers to gather, share their backgrounds, their research projects, and their menstrual health humour (there’s a surprising amount!- check out this Gloria Steinem essay from 1978).

We have research activity across menstrual health teaching (see our student-led guide for remote and Indigenous students), heavy menstrual bleeding decision aids, menstrual disorder and pelvic pain in young people, PMDD healthcare pathways, and the development and evaluation of interventions to support menstrual and reproductive health in low income settings.

Our new ‘Period Pals‘ informal community of practice  will ensure that we continue to ensure that menstruators live in a world where everyone can access the products, period education, menstrual health services, and period-friendly infrastructure they need.”
