Hemineglect is one of the most misunderstood conditions after stroke.
A person may eat food from only one side of the plate, ignore one arm, bump into walls, or fail to notice people standing on one side.
This is not stubbornness.
This is a neurological attention disorder caused commonly by right hemisphere stroke.
Common Signs of Hemineglect:
- Ignoring one side of the body
- Poor awareness of surroundings
- Collisions while walking
- Difficulty dressing or grooming
- Reduced balance and safety
- Increased fall risk
The scary part?
Many patients and caregivers don’t recognize it early.
But early neurorehabilitation can make a huge difference.
- Visual scanning training
- Cueing strategies
- Prism adaptation therapy
- Task-specific rehabilitation
- Balance and mobility training
- Technology-assisted neurorehabilitation
