Rana Al-Hrout: MAHA – More Than Schistocytes
Rana Al-Hrout, Clinical Pathology-Hematology Specialist at Ministry of Health – Jordan, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“MAHA: More Than Schistocytes
Recognizing microangiopathic hemolytic anemia requires more than identifying fragmented red blood cells.
The key is to integrate peripheral blood film morphology with laboratory evidence of hemolysis, platelet count, renal function, and clinical findings.
In suspected thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), early recognition is critical. The PLASMIC score can help assess the likelihood of severe ADAMTS13 deficiency while awaiting definitive testing.”
