“Did you know that platelets from different donors can be pooled into a single bag?
One of the most interesting things I learned in the Blood Bank was that platelets can be prepared from a single donor (Apheresis Platelets) or by combining platelets from multiple ABO-compatible donors (Pooled Platelets) into a single unit.
Although platelet transfusions do not always require an exact ABO match with the patient, matching the donors’ platelets within the pooled unit is important.”
