Suhasini Sil: Mitigating Grade III Plateletpheresis Reactions – A Prospective Evaluation
Suhasini Sil, Senior Resident doctor at AIIMS, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authord, published in Transfusion Clinique et Biologique, adding:
“Excited to share our original research is recently accepted for publication in Transfusion Clinique et Biologique
‘Prospective evaluation of pre-procedure education and active monitoring in reducing grade III donor reactions in plateletpheresis’
Key findings:
- Donor education and active monitoring increased ADR detection nearly four-fold (9.3% vs. 2.3%).
- All reactions identified in the intervention group were mild (Grade I), with no Grade II or Grade III reactions observed.
- The odds of severe donor reactions were reduced by 98% with proactive donor engagement.
- Early recognition of symptoms improved donor safety, donor experience, and may support long-term donor retention.
A heartfelt thanks to all co-authors, donors, nursing staff, and colleagues who contributed to this work.”
