Thomas Gowa: WFH Cornerstone Initiative Strengthens Clinical Capacity in Hemophilia Care
Thomas Gowa, Regional Manager of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa at World Federation of Hemophilia, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Through WFH’s Cornerstone Initiative program, the commitment to extend training and capacity building of health care professionals was demonstrated through a two-day multi-departmental training at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals [22-23 July 2026, Harare, Zimbabwe].
Up to thirty nurses from the Outpatient and Casualty Departments, Pediatric and Adult Wards and Antenatal Clinic were trained.
Physiotheraphy and Laboratory Departments were also represented.
Topics covered included the basics of hemophilia, Management Guidelines for Hemophilia, genetics of hemophilia and the importance of medical alert bracelets in emergency cases.
The nurses were also taught how to mix and infuse clotting factor concentrates with the help of volunteer patients.
Thank you to the dedicated team at Zimbabwe Haemophilia Association (ZHA), and the administration and clinicians at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital for making this possible.
Looking forward to future successes in improving lives for patients with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders in Zimbabwe.”
