Coffee Before Donation: Why It Might Affect Blood Quality?

“Does your morning coffee affect your blood donation?
New research suggests that higher caffeine levels in donated blood resulted in lower increases in recipients’ hemoglobin levels and greater signs of hemolysis.
According to the authors, the findings open the door to a more individualized approach to blood transfusion that accounts not only for blood type, but also lifestyle factors and genetic traits that influence RBC quality.”
