Marek Grygier: CHAMPION-AF Is A Potential Game-Changer in Stroke Prevention

Marek Grygier, Director of Catherization Laboratory and Head of Structural Heart Interventions Program at Poznan University of Medical Sciences, shared on LinkedIn:

CHAMPION-AF: A Potential Game-Changer in Stroke Prevention

Today marks an exciting moment for the cardiology community

At the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Congress in New Orleans – and simultaneously published in the New England Journal of Medicine – the results of the CHAMPION-AF trial have been unveiled.

In my view, this is one of those studies that has real potential to reshape clinical practice CHAMPION-AF gives us strong evidence that in the future we may be able to use LAAC instead of NOAC as a first-line stroke prevention approach for patients with atrial fibrillation.

The findings bring new insights into stroke prevention strategies and may significantly influence how we approach treatment decisions in the near future.

It will be fascinating to see how quickly these results are translated into guidelines and everyday clinical care.

We are also proud that our University Clinical Hospital in Poznań was the only center from Poland participating in this landmark study.

A big step forward – and certainly a study worth diving into.”
