Important Reminder from Rick Matthews: Renal Vein Thrombosis Can Be Easy to Miss
Rick Matthews, Senior Vascular Consultant at Argon Medical Devices, Inc., reposted from World Thrombosis Day on LinkedIn:
”Important reminder—renal vein thrombosis (RVT) can be easy to miss, but the downstream impact on kidney function can be significant.
In adults, the association with nephrotic syndrome (including immune-mediated disease like lupus) makes early recognition and appropriate management critical.
Thanks for sharing.”
Quoting World Thrombosis Day‘s post:
”Clot Classroom: Renal Vein Thrombosis (RVT).
Renal vein thrombosis occurs when thrombus formation obstructs venous outflow from the kidney, impairing filtration and renal function.
In adults, RVT is most commonly associated with nephrotic syndrome, including immune-mediated conditions such as lupus that increase hypercoagulability.
Understanding the pathophysiology of RVT is key to timely recognition and management in at-risk patients.
