Superficial Vein Thrombosis Management: John Fanikos Shares Latest Review
John Fanikos, Director of Strategic Initiatives at North American Thrombosis Forum, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Once again the hard work of the Thrombosis Research Group is making the news.
Superficial Vein Thrombosis (in contrast to deep vein thrombosis) has represented a treatment challenge for clinicians. In this review, blood clot size (> 5 centimeters) and location (<3 centimeters from a deep vein) matters.
This directs the treatment choice of anticoagulation (fondaparinux, rivaroxaban) versus conservative management (warm compresses, ibuprofen, compression stockings).
Kudos to the clinicians, Drs. Piazza, Krishnathasan, Hamade, Ujueta, Scimeca, Goldhaber, Bikdeli et al. Thank you for including me.
You can visit the Vasculearn Network and find stories from patients on the Discussion Board about their diagnosis and treatment journey.”
