“Tobacco and Thrombosis: Sex-Specific Cardiovascular Risks in Focus on World No Tobacco Day” – Dr. Maja Lisa Løchen Highlights ESCPrev2025
The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) sheds light on the sex-specific differences in tobacco addiction and cardiovascular risk, as highlighted by Dr. Maja Lisa Løchen at ESCPrev2025
“Emerging evidence indicates that smoking contributes differentially to cardiovascular disease (CVD) and thrombotic risk in men and women, necessitating a tailored preventive strategy. The burden of platelet activation, endothelial dysfunction, and hypercoagulability linked to tobacco use may disproportionately affect women, particularly in the presence of other risk factors such as hormonal therapy or autoimmune disorders.”
