Amanda Stahl: Integrating Psychosocial Care Into Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment
Amanda Stahl, Clinical Social Worker of Boston Bleeding Disorders Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Member of Psychosocial Committee at World Federation of Hemophilia, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Hemophilia, adding:
“One of the things that makes Hemophilia Treatment Centers unique in healthcare is the access patients have to comprehensive, multidisciplinary care.
At every visit, patients are seen by a team that includes not only their hematologist and nursing staff, but also physical therapy and psychosocial professionals.
Rather than treating these services as referrals or add-ons when a problem arises, they are integrated into routine care for every patient.
In healthcare, this preventive, person-centered model should be the norm rather than the exception.
Along with colleagues Kathaleen Schnur, Silvina Graña from the World Federation of Hemophilia psychosocial working group, we published an article in Haemophilia Journal describing the role of psychosocial professionals in bleeding disorders care around the world.
We highlight the important contributions of social workers, psychologists, and other psychosocial professionals and the essential role they play within the comprehensive care team.
Our hope is for continued access to psychosocial professionals for all patients with bleeding disorders.”
