Cedric Hermans, Head of Haemophilia Centre at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels, shared on LinkedIn:
”Von Willebrand disease diagnosis: from complexity to simplicity
I am pleased to share our latest open-access paper published in RPTH.
Essentials
• The complexity of diagnosing von Willebrand disease (VWD) often hinders recognition of new patients.
• Focusing on von Willebrand factor (VWF) activity and FVIII levels may simplify the diagnostic process.
• Factor choice should consider VWF activity, FVIII, and the quality of the infused VWF multimers.
• A streamlined approach could improve global diagnosis and management of VWD.
This work advocates for a more pragmatic and accessible diagnostic strategy, particularly useful in centers with limited expertise or resources, while recognizing the need for accurate subtyping in complex cases.”
