Emily Horner: Lipoprotein(a) Links Oxidized Phospholipids to Platelet Hyperactivity
Emily Horner, British Heart Foundation PhD Researcher at University of Leeds, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleges co-authored, published in American Heart Association Circulation Research, adding:
“I am absolutely delighted to share my recent first-author manuscript from my PhD ‘Lipoprotein(a) drives platelet hyperactivity through oxPL-CD36’ has been published in American Heart Association Circulation Research!
Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a), transports oxidised phospholipids (oxPL) and increases cardiovascular risk, but its role in thrombosis remains unclear.
We show that Lp(a) drives pathological platelet activation through an oxPL-CD36 pathway, revealing a novel mechanistic link between Lp(a) to atherothrombosis.
