Giulio Maria Pasinetti: Aspirin Use Linked to Lower Dementia Risk in Older Adults With Specific Genetic Characteristics

Giulio Maria Pasinetti, Saunders Family Chair in Neurology, Director of NIH Center in the Promotion of Cognitive and Psychological Resilience at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Peter D. Fransquet et al., published in Alzheimer’s and Dementia, adding:

“A new analysis from Peter Fransquet, Chenglong Yu, Cammie Tran, Paul Lacaze, et al. ‘suggests that low-dose aspirin may be linked to a dramatically lower risk of Dementia in older adults with certain genetic characteristics.’

Researchers from Monash University ‘found that people with a specific genetic profile who took aspirin had a 70 percent lower relative risk of developing dementia, raising the possibility that genetic testing could eventually help identify people who might benefit from preventive treatments.'”

Title: Platelet count polygenic scores may modify the effect of aspirin in primary prevention of dementia
