Heghine Khachatryan: Best-Practice Recommendations for Implementing Shared Decision-Making in Hemophilia Care
Heghine Khachatryan, Editor-in-Chief of Hemostasis Today, Head of Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, shared European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders‘ post on LinkedIn, adding:
“Shared decision-making is becoming a cornerstone of modern hemophilia care.
A recent collaborative initiative led by the European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD), together with the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) and the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC), highlights best-practice recommendations for implementing shared decision-making in clinical practice.
This approach recognizes that optimal hemophilia management goes beyond clinical protocols.
It requires meaningful collaboration between physicians, patients, and caregivers to ensure that treatment choices align with individual needs, lifestyles, and long-term health goals.
As therapeutic options expand—from factor replacement therapies to non-factor treatments such as emicizumab—the importance of informed dialogue and patient engagement becomes even more critical.
Strengthening shared decision-making helps improve adherence, treatment satisfaction, and overall outcomes for people living with hemophilia.
Valuable insights for clinicians, patient organizations, and policymakers working to improve hemophilia care worldwide.”
European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders shared a post on LinkedIn:
“EAHAD, together with the World Federation of Hemophilia and the EHC – European Haemophilia Consortium co-led a multi-stakeholder project to develop best practice statements for shared decision-making (SDM) in haemophilia.”
