Isaac Okello: Where Skyline Meets Savannah – Quiet Moments at GASCDO in Nairobi

“While in Nairobi for the 3rd Global Sickle Cell Conference, I found myself taking a quiet moment to reminisce about the journey that brought me here.
Amid the busy conference sessions, conversations, and shared experiences, my room became a little sanctuary of reflection.
As I looked through the window, I was fascinated to see wildlife moving freely within Nairobi National Park – the remarkable national park sitting right beside a bustling capital city.
Watching the wild animals against the backdrop of Nairobi’s skyline felt almost surreal.
For a moment, everything became still.
I reflected on the people, the struggles, the victories, and the purpose behind my work in the sickle cell community.
I smiled and thought, ‘What a beautiful experience this is.’
Nairobi gave me not only a conference, but a memory I will always treasure.”
