James Morrissey Shares the Explanation of A Literally 30 Years Worth of TF Biochemistry
James Morrissey, Professor at University of Michigan Medical School, shared on LinkedIn:
”Delighted that our cryo-EM structure of the membrane-bound enzyme that triggers blood clotting — the tissue factor (TF)/factor VIIa (FVIIa) complex — was featured on the cover of the 4 December 2025 issue of Blood!
It reveals a previously unknown, membrane-dependent allosteric mechanism that explains literally 30 years’ worth of TF biochemistry that lacked a unified explanation.
Plus, it provides a mechanistic explanation for the puzzling phenomenon of TF encryption/decryption on cell surfaces.
Josepha Sezdro in my lab worked closely with Amanda Photenhauer in Melanie Ohi‘s lab (plus a host of other talented collaborators) to solve this structure.”
