Jean Terrier: COBRRA Trial – Comparing Bleeding Risks Between DOACs

Jean Terrier, Clinical Pharmacologist and Toxicologist at University of Rhode Island, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, adding:

“New Viewpoint in European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy

COBRRA showed 54% less clinically relevant bleeding with apixaban vs. rivaroxaban in acute VTE. Same target, so why the difference?

We discuss:

  • The acute regimen for VTE
  • Treatment adherence
  • PK/PD differences, as exploratory hypotheses
  • What should clinicians do ?

This is an exciting time for direct oral anticoagulant and clinical pharmacology. Work remains on efficacy and long-term VTE treatment, and we look forward to the COBRRA-AF trial (COmparison of Bleeding Risk Between Rivaroxaban and Apixaban in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation).

Warm thanks to my coauthors Jean-Luc Reny, Youssef Daali and Pierre Fontana.”
