Jecko Thachil, Consultant Haematologist at NHS, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleague co-authored, published in eJHaem, adding:
“Why do we call it ‘multiple myeloma’ ?
Where are the ‘multiple’ ‘omas’ in the bone marrow ?
Why are they called ‘plasma cells’ ?
What is the ‘para’ in paraprotein ?
And why kappa and lambda chains (not alpha and beta)?
And how did the immunoglobulins start from G, then M and on to A, D and E ?
All explained here.”
