Jessica Kruger: The Educational Potential of Hemophilia Treatment Centers

Jessica Kruger, Assistant Dean of Teaching Innovation and Excellence at University at Buffalo’s School of Public Health and Health Professions, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in JIEP, adding:

“One of the things I appreciate most about interprofessional education is that it asks us to look beyond individual professions and focus on how we learn and work together to improve patient care.

That perspective led us to think about Hemophilia Treatment Centers differently.

These centers have long relied on comprehensive, team-based care, bringing multiple professions together around the needs of patients and families.

Yet their potential as sites for interprofessional education, research, and academic-clinical partnerships remains underrecognized. We are grateful for our partnership with Western New York Bloodcare!

Our paper, Hemophilia Treatment Centers as Underrecognized Sites of Interprofessional Collaborative Practice:

Opportunities for Education, Research, and Partnership, considers what could happen if we more intentionally connected these existing models of collaborative practice with IPE.

We may not always need to create new spaces for IPE. We may need to become better at recognizing the excellent interprofessional practice already around us.”
