Josepha Clara Sedzro: First Cryo-EM Structure of the Coagulation Initiation Complex

Josepha Clara Sedzro, Postdoctoral Researcher in Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan, highlighted her team’s groundbreaking Blood publication in a recent LinkedIn post:

“Excited to share that our cryo-EM structure of the tissue factor/factor VIIa complex with a factor X mimetic is now published in Blood!

For the first time, we reveal how the trimolecular complex that triggers blood clotting assembles on a membrane surface, and uncover a novel allosteric mechanism that enables FX recognition by the TF/FVIIa complex.

This achievement is the result of an amazing collaboration between my lab (the Morrissey Lab), the Cianfrocco Lab and the Ohi Lab at the University of Michigan, as well as Emad Tajkhorshid’s group at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

I am so proud to be part of this journey!”
