Koson Tony Sriamporn: A Milestone for Inclusive Blood Donor Eligibility

Koson Tony Sriamporn, Research Fellow at The University of Auckland, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Plos. One, adding:

”Hot-off-the-press!

It’s great to finally publish the evidence that supported NZ’s shift to an individualized donor assessment (IDA) approach for all prospective blood donors, including men who have sex with men.

In this paper we estimate the number of those who would be eligible under different policy conditions (UK and Canada), breakdown the eligibility estimates under individual deferral criteria (including chemsex), and finally we describe the sociodemographic and behavioral profile of those who are newly eligible under IDA.”

Title: Eligibility to donate blood under an individual donor assessment policy: A national cross-sectional study of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Aotearoa, New Zealand
