Krishna Athmakuri: Evaluating Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Against Oral Anticoagulation

Krishna Athmakuri, Research Trainee at Mayo Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in EP Europace, adding:

“I am incredibly honoured to share that our Bayesian meta-analysis comparing left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) versus oral anticoagulation (OAC) has been published in the prestigious EP Europace.

Our analysis revisits the non-inferiority conclusions of the pivotal LAAO trials through a Bayesian framework. The findings suggest that the available evidence may not support the claimed non-inferiority of LAAO to OAC as confidently as previously believed.

The posterior probabilities of non-inferiority revealed through a Bayesian framework highlight this uncertainity.

This honour is surpassed only by the fact that our paper was cited and discussed in an editorial published in EP Europace. Having our work recognised on such a prestigious platform is both immensely gratifying and deeply humbling.

I am immensely grateful to my mentors Komandoor Srivathsan, Hari Chaliki, co-authors Shreyas Raghavan Nandyal, Hrushikesh Reddy, Saketh Vinjamuri, Shanmukh Lingamsetty, Anushka Mahajan, Muqaddas Hussain for their guidance, support, and contributions throughout this project.”
