“Genetic associations with pulmonary embolism among those with a deep vein thrombosis: the INVENT Consortium
Why some deep vein thromboses embolize to the lungs and others don’t may be partly genetic.
In a case-only meta-analysis of 126,316 people with VTE across 29 studies, four variants distinguished PE from isolated DVT, including factor V Leiden (which was protective against PE) and variants near FGG and F11. A polygenic score tracked with risk, though effects were modest.”
