Mary Cushman: Covering Associations of Antiphospholipid Antibodies with Stroke

Mary Cushman, University Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair at the University of Vermont, shared a post on LinkedIn, about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Stroke journal, adding:

“New manuscript out in Stroke journal covering associations of antiphospholipid antibodies with stroke.

Great to work with Behnood Bikdeli’s group on this!

In 52 studies:

  • Pooled prevalence of seropositivity for any aPL in >9000 people with ischemic stroke was 19.1%. That’s high!
  • aPL seropositivity was associated with 2.93-fold increased risk of first ischemic stroke (43 studies, 19 097 patients.
  • Strongest association was for lupus anticoagulant or, 6.69 )95% CI, 2.94–15.2).”
