Paul Wischmeyer: Coffee Protects the Heart? New Evidence Says YES

Paul Wischmeyer, Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery with Tenure at Duke University School of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Coffee protects the heart? New evidence says YES.
New randomized trial published in JAMA found that patients who drank caffeinated coffee had a 39% lower recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) compared to those who avoided caffeine.

Paul Wischmeyer: Coffee Protects the Heart? New Evidence Says YES

Key findings:
200 patients with persistent AF randomized: coffee vs abstinence
AF recurrence: 47% (coffee) vs 64% (no coffee)
No increase in adverse events
Daily caffeine intake = lower AF risk, same safety.
