Prabineshwor Prasad Lekhak: Saving a Girl with Hemophilia When Every Drop Counts

Prabineshwor Prasad Lekhak, Doctor at Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:

”An 8-year-old girl with hemophilia A—a condition so rare in females it’s often overlooked—walked into the ER with appendicitis, and the surgical team had every reason to brace for catastrophic bleeding.

Instead, they opted for 3 mm laparoscopic instruments, perioperative factor VIII replacement, and zero margin for error.

The result?

Even resource limited country like us can perform an entirely uneventful recovery with powerful reminder that even the most unlikely surgical candidates can have optimal outcomes when precision and teamwork replace fear.

I extend my sincere gratitude to Dr. Ashish Lal Shrestha, Sir, an inspiring paediatric surgeon, for his invaluable guidance, encouragement, and opportunity; and to Dr. Para Ghimire Bohara Didi for her expert guidance and encouragement in compiling this case report.

It is a honor to learn under such a dedicated team.”
