Raul Santos: Sex Differences And Similarities in the Management of Familial Hypercholesterolemia During Life Course
Raul Santos, Researcher at ARO Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, shared on LinkedIn:
“Delighted to share our new editorial, ‘Sex differences and similarities in the management of familial hypercholesterolemia during the life course: learning from the younglings,’ now available in Atherosclerosis. Building on the elegant study by Jan Kafol, Urh Groselj, and colleagues on sex differences in cholesterol levels among prepubertal children in Slovenia, we highlight how the genetic burden of FH can override normal physiological sex differences and why universal pediatric screening is so important.
Together with Prof. Mariko Harada-Shiba, we argue for a truly life-course and sex-sensitive approach to FH care – from early diagnosis and statin initiation in childhood, through pregnancy management, to intensifying lipid-lowering after menopause – so we can meaningfully reduce ASCVD risk for both women and men living with FH.”
