Sophia Delicou: Modern Approaches to Transfusion Support During Pregnancy
Sophia Delicou, Head of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Unit, Head of the Expertise Center of Hemoglobin Diseases and Their Complications at Hippokrateio General Hospital, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, adding:
“We are pleased to share our new publication on transfusion management during pregnancy in women with hemoglobinopathies, including thalassemia and sickle cell disease.
This review highlights the importance of individualized care, evidence-based transfusion strategies, and close multidisciplinary collaboration between hematologists, obstetricians, transfusion medicine specialists, and maternal-fetal medicine teams to optimize outcomes for both mother and baby.
As advances in care continue to improve quality of life and reproductive outcomes for women with hemoglobinopathies, the need for updated, practical, and globally applicable guidance becomes increasingly important.
Grateful to all colleagues and collaborators who contributed to this work.”
