Susan Shea: Can Coagulation Changes Predict Kidney Injury After Trauma?

Susan Shea, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery at University of Pittsburgh, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Blood Advances, adding:

“Very excited to share this recent publication from our group in Blood Advances!

In this work, we found that an early coagulation imbalance, denoted by elevated thrombin-antithrombin complexes together with reduced fibrinogen, may provide an early signal of acute kidney injury after severe traumatic injury.

This is one of those studies that took real persistence.

First author, postdoc Rida Zakar, met every challenge in this project with determination, thoughtfulness, and resilience. Rida is a rockstar and I am absolutely delighted to see his hard work out in the world. Congratulations, RZ!
