Zeyad Kholeif, Resident Doctor at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas Internal Medicine Residency, Research Scholar at Mayo Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleges co-authored, published in JACC: Case Reports, adding:
“Excited to share our latest publication in JACC: Case Reports:
‘From Nonobstructive Plaque to LAD Thrombosis in a 26-Year-Old Athlete’
- 26-year-old bodybuilder
- Heavy anabolic steroid with energy drink use
- Initial angiography: nonobstructive LAD plaque
- Weeks later: acute thrombotic LAD occlusion causing anterior STEMI
An important reminder that:
- MINOCA is not always benign
- Nonobstructive plaque can rapidly evolve into catastrophic coronary thrombosis
- Toxic exposures may dramatically accelerate endothelial injury and plaque instability in young adults
