Saleh Shamse Basha: Case Report of MAHA Secondary to Prosthetic Mitral Valve
Saleh Shamse Basha, Senior Hematology Technologist and Hematology and Coagulation Specialist, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Case report – Hemolysis from prosthetic mitral valve.
Blood smear presenting:
-Schistocytes
-Thrombocytopenia
-Nucleated RBCs
Is it TTP , DIC , or MAHA ?!!
-Haptoglubine low
-LDH high
-PT and aPTT prolonged but the patient on anticoagulant.
-Dimer and fibrinogen are normal.
-ADAMTS13 was ordered — and came back normal.
We excluded the TTP and DIC, This is most likely MAHA secondary to a heart valve.
Feel free to check out the video below.”
