”Europe’s reliance on imported plasma is a critical issue that demands immediate attention.
The use of plasma in producing vital medical components underscores its importance in healthcare.
However, Europe’s heavy dependence on U.S. imports jeopardizes patient care and the stability of the medical supply chain.
This situation also raises ethical concerns, as purely profit-driven approaches may compromise patient safety and well-being.
Addressing this challenge requires a comprehensive strategy that integrates legal, ethical, and scientific considerations.
By enhancing local plasma sourcing and adopting robust governance measures, Europe can strengthen its healthcare resilience and ensure a sustainable supply of essential therapeutics.
Emphasizing donor safety, ethical standards in medicine, and strong governance practices is paramount to safeguarding the region’s health infrastructure.
Misaligned countries’ policies and standards could represent a risk for companies crossing the red lines of legal and ethic frameworks even without being fully aware of such behavior.”
