Alexander Hermann and Colleagues On Post-ECMO Thrombosis
Alexander Hermann, Program Coordinator ECMO Retrieval at Medical University of Vienna, shared on LinkedIn:
”New paper just dropped in Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM) MDPI:
- We took a deep dive into post-ECMO thrombosis — prospectively screening over 100 patients.
- 35% had cannula-associated DVT
- 9% had pulmonary embolism
- VV-ECMO emerged as an independent risk factor
It’s one of the few prospective studies in this field — and shows how much we still have to learn about thrombosis in ECLS patients.
Huge thanks to our fantastic ICU 13i2, pathology, and pharmacology teams at the Medical University of Vienna who made this possible!
