Ryan Williams: This Article Brings to Light The Complexity of PRP…
Ryan Williams, Physician Assistant at BHS Orthopedic Associates, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Benjamin B. Rothrauff et al, published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine:
”This article brings to light the complexity of PRP on more than the most popular topic, platelet dose.
The authors highlight patient specific impact, biologic composition, preparation, activation, ability to store PRP for future use, allogenic vs. autologous PRP, EVs, and peri-procedure optimization.
Practically, variables that can be impacted are:
1. Optimize the patient (address comorbidities, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress).
2. Have a consistent, high quality PRP protocol.
3. Use safe, quality, and value-based energy (not mentioned in the article), exercise (BFR), pharmaceutical and nutraceutical tools to enhance the patient and the composition of the PRP.
I’m curious of others real-world experience with pre-blood draw exercise and BFR, using a senolytic (dasatinib and quercetin, fisetin, astragalus/TA-65, etc.) or losartan (or any ARB) and any other optimization strategies.
I’ve had some patients inquire about optimizing their PRP with exercise and supplements.
I’ve had several ask about red/NIR light therapy which I encourage them to do before the procedure and continue after if they have already purchased a device (this was not mentioned in the article). ”
