Nathan Connell Speaks on Gender Diversity In Haemostasis Care at EAHAD 2026
Nathan Connell, Clinical Chief of Hematology at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Honored to speak at EAHAD 2026 in Dublin
Grateful to the European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD) — and especially the Women and Girls+ with Bleeding Disorders Working Group — for the invitation to present on: ‘Gender diversity in haemostasis care: bridging gaps in an evolving landscape.’
This session was an opportunity to step back and reflect on how sex, gender, identity, and lived experience intersect with bleeding and thrombotic disorders — and how our field can continue moving toward more inclusive, evidence-informed, and patient-centered care.
Some key themes from my presentation:
- Harm reduction as a shared goal across all perspectives — fewer clots, fewer bleeds, better lives
- The importance of language, respectful communication, and creating affirming clinical environments
- Intersectionality and the mental health burden faced by many patients with bleeding disorders and gender diversity
- Individualized, shared decision-making in areas like hormone therapy, surgery, and anticoagulation — especially where evidence is evolving
I’m incredibly appreciative of the thoughtful dialogue and followup from colleagues and the opportunity to learn from such a multidisciplinary and international community committed to advancing hemostasis care.
Thank you again to Niamh O’Connell, Jan Blatný, Michelle Lavin, the entire Congress organizing committee, and to everyone who engaged in this important conversation.”
