”A swollen leg is not always a minor issue.
When swelling occurs in one leg, particularly after surgery, prolonged travel, injury, or extended immobility, deep vein thrombosis must be considered.
A DVT may present with subtle calf pain or tightness. In some cases, symptoms are minimal.
The real danger occurs if the clot dislodges and travels to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism.
At that point, sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting, or coughing up blood can occur and the situation becomes life-threatening.
Early recognition is critical.
Unilateral leg swelling is not something to casually dismiss.
