Crina Chrysostomou: Residents vs AI in the Detection of Intracranial Hemorrhage on Emergency CT
Crina Chrysostomou, Radiologist at HUG – Geneva University Hospitals, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, adding:
”We are happy to share our latest article published in European Radiology:
‘Performance of AI vs radiology residents in the detection of intracranial hemorrhage on emergency CT: a real-world analysis’
Our team evaluated the performance of a commercial AI software for detecting intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), compared to on-call radiology residents.
Key points:
- Residents outperformed AI
- AI is most sensitive in cases with multiple types of ICH and in multiple sites
AI tools are improving but not yet surpass trained residents in critical emergency situations.
The conversation is shifting from ‘Will AI replace radiologists?’ to ‘How can we integrate AI responsibly in an emergency radiology workflow?’.
Curious to hear perspectives from radiologists currently working with AI in emergency settings.
Where do you believe AI delivers the greatest value in emergency radiology?”
