Jeannie Devereaux: A Novel Technique for Precise High-Dose PRP Injection in Hip Labral Tear

Jeannie Devereaux, PhD Supervisor at Victoria University, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Zane Sherif et al, published in Journal of Surgery Research and Practice:

”A recent case report describes a novel technique using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) arthrography to improve the accuracy of high dose PRP injections in the hip joint.

In a patient with an MRI-confirmed labral tear, clinicians injected high-dose autologous PRP (~40 billion platelets) under ultrasound guidance while using microbubble contrast to enhance visualisation of the joint space.

The contrast markedly improved needle visibility and real-time confirmation of intra-articular placement, addressing a common challenge in deep joint injections where ultrasound reflection angles can obscure the needle.

The authors conclude that CEUS arthrography may improve procedural precision, safety, and therapeutic delivery of PRP in complex joints such as the hip, while potentially reducing reliance on CT or fluoroscopy guidance.”
