Leonardo Roever: Progress in Prevention, Treatment, and National Care Strategies for Stroke in China
Leonardo Roever, CEO of Brazilian Evidence-Based Health Network, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Simiao Wu et al, published in The Lancet Neurology, adding:
”Stroke in China: Advances in Prevention and Treatment Towards a Healthy China
Stroke incidence and mortality have decreased in China over the past decade; however, stroke prevalence continues to rise due to the aging population.
In line with the ‘Healthy China 2030’ plan, there has been a strategic reorientation of health services towards the prevention of serious diseases, including stroke.
Along with the establishment of a national network of stroke centers to enhance stroke care and research, there has also been progress in understanding stroke etiology, screening and controlling risk factors, and promoting early diagnosis and treatment.
Evidence from high-quality randomized clinical trials in China supports the widespread adoption of reperfusion therapies for ischemic stroke, early reduction of blood pressure after intracerebral hemorrhage, individualized approaches to secondary prevention, and evaluation of research on neuroprotective agents.
Future efforts should focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle, public education on stroke prevention and timely access to stroke services, training healthcare professionals working in stroke care in evidence-based care, and improving pre- and post-hospital stroke services.”
