Valeria Caso: Why Now Is the Time to Act on Global Health Prevention
Valeria Caso, Chief of Neurology-Stroke Unit at Saronno Hospital, reposted from World Stroke Organization on LinkedIn:
”Right now, we’re facing a major turning point in global health. As the large baby-boomer generation ages together, the world is experiencing a demographic shift like never before.
At the same time, experts expect a sharp rise in strokes, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where healthcare systems are already under strain.
There is good news, though: 80% of strokes can be prevented.
By making healthy lifestyle changes, managing risk factors such as high blood pressure and diabetes, and ensuring everyone has access to basic healthcare, we can change this story for the better.
We can’t afford to wait until this crisis gets worse. Now is the time for healthcare leaders, policymakers, and communities everywhere to focus on prevention and health education.
Is your organization taking steps to prioritize preventative care?”
World Stroke Organization shared on LinkedIn:
”Every year stroke costs the world US$891 billion.
It’s not just healthcare and welfare costs that add up.
As a leading cause of death and disability, stroke also takes a huge toll on workforce productivity.
If we don’t act, these costs could rise to US$1.6 trillion by 2050.
They don’t have to.
Investing in stroke prevention, treatment and care doesn’t just save lives.
It’s an investment in people, productivity, and future prosperity.
As a Member State representative, this World Health Assembly is your chance to make a difference.
THE TIME IS NOW.
