Joanna Fraser: New Publications on Women and Girls With Inherited Bleeding Disorders
Joanna Fraser, Former Locum Consultant in O&G at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn about recent articles she and her collegues co-authored, published in Haemophilia, adding:
“Delighted to share that I recently contributed to two publications in the Haemophilia Journal State of the Art issue focusing on women and girls with inherited bleeding disorders (WGBD).
The first review explores the important and often under-recognised gynaecological and obstetric challenges faced by women with inherited bleeding disorders — including heavy menstrual bleeding, reproductive health, pregnancy, delivery planning, and postpartum haemorrhage.
The second paper focuses on the impact of cultural taboos, stigma, delayed recognition of heavy menstrual bleeding, and the urgent need for improved menstrual health literacy, screening tools, and multidisciplinary care pathways for women and girls globally.
Women with bleeding disorders continue to experience significant diagnostic delay and barriers to care worldwide. Improving awareness, education, and equitable access to specialist multidisciplinary support remains one of the major challenges — and opportunities — within women’s health.
